What a bathroom remodel costs

These are our 2026 starting prices. Size matters less than you’d think. What moves the number is whether plumbing moves and what goes on the walls.

Hall or guest bathroom

New tub or shower, tile, vanity, toilet, fixtures and lighting.

from $14,000

Primary bathroom

Larger layout, walk-in shower, double vanity, custom tile and glass, often a reconfigured floor plan.

from $35,000

Every project is scoped and quoted individually. City permits and fees are billed separately.

What moves the price

  • Moving the toilet, shower or drain
  • Tile size and material, and how much of the wall it covers
  • Frameless glass and custom vanities
  • Steam showers, heated floors and other added systems
  • Old plumbing that needs replacing once the walls are open

How long it takes

Construction usually runs 4 to 8 weeks when no walls are moved. Custom glass and cabinetry have lead times, so we order them early.

Two bathrooms at once

It’s usually cheaper than doing them a year apart: one permit, one setup, shared trades. We stage the work so you always have a working bathroom.

Designed in 3D, then built

We draw every bathroom in 3D before anything comes out, so you can change the layout, the tile or the vanity while it’s still easy. These are the 3D design and the finished room for a guest bathroom in Fallbrook. Drag the slider to compare the vanity wall.

Waterproofing comes first

Tile and grout let water through over time. What protects the house is the layer underneath: a waterproof backer board or membrane on the walls, a shower pan sloped to the drain, and sealed seams, corners, niches and valve openings.

We build that layer before any tile goes on, and it’s the part of the job we’re most careful with. The photo shows a shower at that stage.

When you compare contractors, ask each one what goes behind the tile and how they seal the pan. It tells you a lot about how the rest of the job will go.

Shower, tub and vanity choices

Walk-in and curbless showers

Frameless glass, low or no curb, and wet rooms where the tub sits inside the waterproofed shower area.

Steam showers

Generator, controls, a sealed enclosure, a sloped ceiling and the right ventilation, planned as a full system.

Tubs

Freestanding soaking tubs, alcove tubs and tub-to-shower conversions, with the floor and plumbing checked at design.

Vanities and storage

Floating, double-sink, semi-custom or custom. In older homes, custom is often the only way to use the whole wall.

Tile and heated floors

Porcelain, stone and large-format slab, laid out so the cuts fall where you won’t notice them. Radiant floor heat on its own thermostat.

Comfortable access

Curbless entries, wider doors, comfort-height fixtures and blocking in the walls for future grab bars.

Small bathrooms

In a bathroom under about 40 square feet, the changes that help most are usually not structural. Clear glass instead of a curtain makes the room read larger. A floating vanity shows more floor. Larger tile means fewer grout lines.

Sometimes moving a wall is worth the cost, and sometimes it gains you a few inches. We’ll tell you which one it is before you decide.

“This is our second job with Tomer, and we will continue to use him and Seven Home Improvement for our remodeling needs. Our first project was a master bath remodel that included a steam shower installation (best investment ever!), and we were so satisfied that we moved on to remodel the kids bathroom as well. Throughout both projects Tomer and his team maintained excellent communication and flexibility as we transitioned through the various stages of progress.”

“Seven Home Improvement did an amazing job on the renovation of the two bathrooms in my condo. I had no idea what to do with bathrooms built in the early 1990’s! Donovan Berg brought us together with a very creative designer and together we planned a modern yet compatible design. Because of my work schedule I had to rely completely on Seven and Donovan to coordinate all phases from ordering and delivering to final completion. The project turned out better than I ever could have imagined! If prompt, perfect and pretty are your goals, I recommend Seven!”

“We are very pleased with our master bathroom remodel from beginning to end. Our project manager was Donovan who would come by frequently to check on the progress and answer our questions. When issues came up, we were consulted and the options were clearly explained. What we found the most helpful was the renderings of the remodel which really helped us visualize the outcome. Seven also helped us find different options for bathroom fixtures, tub and vanities at a discounted rate. Once the project started, the crew was professional, courteous and responsible. We highly recommend Seven Home Improvement and will use them again.”

“We remodeled our master bathroom with Seven Home Improvement. We couldn’t be happier from start to finish. [Tomer] walked us through each phase and was even available to help choose our materials. He made sure we received the best prices and the highest quality products. His crew was professional and the work was exceptional. Our bathroom exceeded my expectations and I would absolutely recommend Seven Home Improvement.”

“In 2021 I contracted with Seven to design and install a major kitchen remodel; new cabinets, appliances, flooring, countertops, plumbing, venting and lighting. The resulting remodel was done on time and budget and of such quality that I had them come back the following year to do a master bath remodel. Recently, I had a problem with an exhaust vent duct that had worked loose over the ensuing 5 years. Since it was out of warranty, I texted the owner, Tomer, to ask for help. Within three work days one of his crew showed up and reinstalled the hood at no charge. Seven does great work and stands behind their workmanship!”

Bathroom remodeling questions

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in San Diego?

Our hall and guest bathrooms start at $14,000 and primary bathrooms at $35,000. Moving plumbing, tile choices, custom glass and features like a steam shower have the biggest effect on price. City permit fees are billed separately.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

Construction usually takes 4 to 8 weeks when no walls are moved. Keeping the layout is at the short end. Moving plumbing, custom glass or a steam shower is at the long end.

Should I keep a tub or switch to a walk-in shower?

If it’s the only full bathroom in the house, keeping a tub is usually the better choice for families and for resale. In a primary bath or a second bathroom, most of our clients choose a larger walk-in shower.

Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom?

If the work touches plumbing, electrical or walls, yes. We pull the permits and schedule inspections under CSLB #1078564.

What warranty do you offer?

Every project comes with our written warranty: 1 year on our workmanship, starting when the work is substantially complete. If a defect in our work shows up in that year, let us know in writing and we’ll fix it at no charge. Materials, fixtures and appliances carry their manufacturers' warranties, which we pass on to you. The full terms, including what isn’t covered, are in your contract. You can read the current wording on our client care and warranty page.

What problems do you find most often in older bathrooms?

Failed waterproofing and weak ventilation. Both look fine at first and show up later as mold, peeling paint or loose tile. We also see cast iron drains and galvanized supply lines in older homes, and we’ll tell you what we find before we quote.
